To improve access and quality in practice-oriented Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for infrastructure projects, the Build4Skills (B4S) didactic training workshop was organized by GIZ Pakistan & PIU-IWRPP for staff of civil contractors working under the Project Implementation Unit – Improving Workforce Readiness in Punjab Project – Industries, Commerce, Investment & Skills Development Department in Lahore.
B4S aims to transform construction sites into learning sites and is part of the ADB-funded project, Improving Workforce Readiness in Punjab (IWRPP). This initiative offers trainees an 8-week training program with incentives at construction sites of Centers of Excellence (COEs).
Project Director Mr. Zohaib Mushtaq emphasized the importance of B4S, suggesting it should be a model for replication in other projects and serve as an example for developing countries.
During an interactive workshop, TVET Consultant Lt. Col. (Retd.) Syed Amir Haider and Director PIU Mr. Shair Ali informed participants about essential aspects of diversified learning pathways, necessary training arrangements, and career awareness during traineeship.
The primary goal of B4S within IWRPP is to enhance the employability of youth, promote local workforce development, and support work-based training in the TVET and construction sectors. This initiative aims to strengthen the project’s image within the community in alignment with ADB’s Green, Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable framework.
